  • Nokia C3 Review

    Welcome to the Nokia C3 review/information page. The Nokia C3-00 is a basic QWERTY phone running the S40 OS interface.  Surprisingly the menu navigation system still works well and easy to use.  We like the good navigation speed and included functionality. Since this is a GSM network phone don't expect fast internet but do expect easy email, text messages or anything to do with keyboard input.  The Nokia C3-00 is priced at around $99 in a pre-paid package and honestly one of the best phones to get in this category. In terms of design, this is Nokia's new smooth look is up to date so no shame in using it is public!  It is made of slightly glossy but classy plastic with a contrasting rear battery panel made of metal.  Overall it looks good and feels pretty good for such a cheap price.  The keypad appears to use the model from the E63, E71 so it feels more expensive and more impressive than other those by other manufacturers. In terms of software the C3 runs on the S40 6th edition.  It does not have as many inherent features as the S60 based Nokia's BUT it can run our software as an animated wallpaper!  Obviously we recommend them for obvious reasons!  Other than that the C3 is designed for social networking website like Facebook, MSN, Yahoo and others. We also noticed that it can also play WMV files! In terms of hardware the phone does have one or two new features but that said - it is only a GSM phone! Among the best features: it uses the latest Transmissive LCD display screen which basically means it can be read more easily outdoors and it has Wi-Fi.  Although it is not a 3G capable phone it can still used GPRS for data.  Basically all this means is that you can chat and IM and Facebook all your want but can't or shouldn't  browse the web until you get access to a Wi-Fi access point because the GPRS/EDGE is really slow. Combined with a massive battery the C3 left on standby can last up to 33 days! All up the Nokia C3-00 is a very decent phone and based on the pricing at release (a mere $99) you can't really go wrong. Specifications

  • Nokia C5-00 Review

    Welcome to the Nokia C5 review. The C5-00 is essentially the mid-range model in the line up which will compete with all the other 'standard' 3G capable phones by other manufacturers. The Nokia C5-00 is priced at a competitive retail price of around $350 when it was released in mid-2010.  We think that is a worthy successor to the 6120 which has a similar feature set. It is a conservative and tidy design like popular Nokia phones of old yet with some nice design touches like metal and different colored plastics should make this a model to consolidate the multiple models with similar specifications in the range.  The multi colour works are it stands out from the increasing grey and black models from other manufacturers. We expect it to be a great pre-paid package too - eventually! In the hand we liked the feel and construction quality.  The large buttons work well and the whole case was nice and solid.  What we found odd though was that the screen appeared to be set back in the case rather than near the surface.  Apart from that it works fast and lag free.  We liked that the browser has the lastest OSS browser which means that even FLASH content on webpages work without any hiccups.  The inbuilt but view only versions of word, excel and powerpoint where also appreciated.  The inclusion of a fast CPU claimed to work at 600Mhz, A-GPS receiver and Ovi maps also extended the usefulness of the phone. We where impressed that everything worked fast and without unexpected lags - it is a very good do it all mobile phone.  That said we still prefer the S40 based Nokia 6700 because of its real metal construction. It is also interesting to note that a Telstra compatible NextG model is not being offered at the time of writing. Overall we did not have to spend too much time with the C5-00 because we have seen it all before and it is reassuring that things are improving in the 'standard' mobile phone area.  You will be happy with the C5 if you want a relatively cheap multi-purpose phone in a candy bar format.   • Samsung S6700 Review

    Welcome to the Samsung S6700 review. The version we sampled was the Samsung S6700T.  This model was released in late 2009 as what can be described as mid-range 3G capable 'feature' mobile phone for the Telstra network. The S6700 is a very interesting phone from Samsung.  It has all the features of what would be described as a high end mobile phone by the end of 2008 yet it is sold as a pre-paid package by some phone networks. It is a traditional slider phone without a touch screen and uses the 'old' Samsung OS but the processing power and features like A-GPS and a larger than standard screen although 240x320 pixels make this a compelling choice if your after a very good phone as a pre-paid. We describe it as a mid-range phone because of the shiny plastic and chunky nature of its construction.  That said it is overall very solid will wear well and certainly better than other more delicate sliders with similar features. The OS works fast and without any significant lags!  We where very impressed with with how well and reliably it all worked.  It is a real alternative to Nokia models since it has a nice relative big and clear screen. Overall another very good phone from Samsung.  It will do everything you could want in terms of calls and text however the lack of a QWERTY keypad limits it's appeal as an email solution for obvious reasons.  Clearly you can receive emails but your replies could be very short! If you want everything and email then the Nokia E63 is the only one we can recommend. When compared to other Samsung pre-paid packages, the S6700 blows them away in terms of speed.  The F480 for example although it has a touch screen is a snail when compared. s6700t_2 Specifications

  • Telstra T100 Review

    Welcome to the 2010 Telstra/ZTE T100 mobile phone review. After a brief demo it was clear that it is essentially T6 model with even more cut down features.  We will be keeping our F156 in operation for a little while longer. Arguably better looking but even cheaper feeling case that doesn't hide what is a basic 3G or NextG mobile phone. The whole keypad and navigation keys slide around as you touch it! (Ultra cheap feel) It has less frequencies than the T6 or its predecessors and omitting the 2100Mhz as a result it is not recommended as a global roaming phone.  However with less frequencies comes with focused 850MHz 3G with better transceiver.  It even has an external antenna connector for better reception - a rare sight these days.  The only redeeming aside from reception and single best feature of the T100 phone is the lovely screen, although small it at least looks good. The functionality offered by the phone is even more cut down than other Telstra or re-branded ZTE models so you get all the basics for voice calls, texts, music, pictures, contacts, calendar and basic internet. It has a traditional phone menu system (updated form other models) but works fast and lag free except when looking for emails. You have to purchase other JAVA based apps to get more interesting stuff. Bear in mind that the camera is minimal and next to useless. I consider this phone suitable for the sub-teen child since it looks and feels like a toy but like most toys your child will not be happy for long. Conclusion All up the Telstra/ZTE T100 is another typically basic mobile phone. It has less features than any other mobile we know off that is '3G' capable.  However you will be happy with the T100 if a basic mobile phone for talking is all you are after and at the current low pre-paid price there is very little competition in the 'NextG' end of the market.  However in this price range also consider the T106 which is more conservative in design but has a more sturdy, upmarket feel plus more features and can be used in many more overseas countries as a 3G phone.   • Nokia E72 – Review

    Welcome to our review of the Nokia E72. The E72 is the successor to the very popular E71.  Strange that Nokia released a replacement just 12 months after the last release but we're not complaining!  We loved the previous model and one of use still uses it.  Simply put it does everything very well and the E72 although still too early to tell looks like it will be just as good as the older model. The E72 has been refined with updated hardware and software.  It faster, has more features and honestly a better package.  The E72 is marketed as a 'for business' mobile phone but it has all the other features that make it equally at home as a multi-media do it all personal phone as well.  It also runs the FLASH based free screensavers apps that we make! The first thing you'll notice is the new menu structure.  It's basically 2 layered with the Apps on the first main menu then followed by the normal S60 based or traditional menu system.  Its is much like the N97's update menu system  The default graphics have been updated with animated icons which adds eye candy. A widget capable home screen would have been nice instead of the usual messaging and calender etc... notifications. The new CPU makes the E72 noticable fast than the already fast E71 and smoother - works really well. As for the hardware the new body feels thinner than prior models and the keypad feels better.  Not sure about the smaller space bar but it overall the feel of the keys is very good albeit still a tad small.  The major change is the touch sensitive center navigation button.  The screen is still very good but not as nice as Blackberry's Bold series.  All the other featured attributes like weight and construction quality are up there with the best mobile phones on the market in 2010.  The battery life is also amazing for this sort of device it should last for over a week under normal usage. Overall a worth while update. There is so much technology and features packed into the phone it would take pages to details them all to the most basic level.  So we have reviewed the key features and did a simple rating. Messaging - Has all the latest communication options including SMS, MMS, video calling, VOIP, SKYPE, Multiple Email (manual and Push), MS Exchange synchronizing, onboard message recording, voice response and command, Wi-Fi, 3G, EDGE, Bluetooth etc.... Easy enough to set up to have the one device handle all your usual stuff. GPS navigation - the E72 has a excellent A-GPS navigation system.  The latest version has OVI Maps which replaces the old Nokia Maps and has the bonus of free maps and trip navigation (point to point voice guided) as well.  It is a proper car, walking, boating GPS navigator!  Accuracy so far is superior to the iPhone and seemingly as good as stand alone units.  (GPS comparison coming soon.)  Since it has the map data stored on a memory card no data plan is needed and you can browse the maps even without mobile coverage.  Excellent. Let me entertain you - Multi-media features- the E72 has all the latest entertainment functions you can wish for.  FM radio, internet radio, MP3, ACC, streaming TV, all common video formats including MP4 and FLV (aka Flash) AVI, etc..  Although not marketed as a multi-media phone this was a still a surprise.  The updated camera and video functions are also appreciated. The only thing missing is a touch screen but that's covered for by the touch navigation button.  The touch button does work well but a screen would probably work better. Since this is an E series phone there are still a ton of work applications that are pre-loaded. Word, Excel, Powerpoint editors, dictionary, Notes, ZIP, PDF, wireless printer connectivity, clocks, calendar, unit convertors, VPN and of course Internet. The web browser has been updated and together with the faster CPU allows one of the best mobile experiences on a moible phone we've seen.  Together with in-built FLASH allows you see full internet websites if you want rather than cut down versions. Conclusion: The E72 is a fantastic phone.  It does everything you can possibly imagine for 2010.  It looks good too which helps.  We can definitely recommend it to anyone!  If you're tossing up between the E71 or E72 I would go for the E72 since its not that much more expensive and a relative bargain compared to other manufacturers. If tossing up between the new N series phones have a long hard think because the E72 does 99% of what the N series in terms of entertainment but 110% of day to day functions in a simpler and more attractive fashion.  If purchased outright you'll find that it is relatively inexpensive.   • Nokia 6300 Review

    Welcome to the Nokia 6300 review. The 6300 has been around for over 2 years now and we didn't get one initially because it didn't have 3G capabilities. We understand that most people still don't need 3G but since it does had EDGE data capabilities it can still be used for basic internet messaging. It is our opinion that the 6300 is Nokia's best GSM handset - it has everything that you need in a GSM only mobile. It can do SWF wallpapers and clocks that we're giving away, JAVA games, some web browsing, music, video, radio, camera and so forth.  It is not a surprise that its one of the most popular models available. The conservative design is made of stainless steel and feels nice, solid and thin. The keypad has a nice feel, but not as nice as the 6233. Overall we liked the look, better in real life than pictures.  Although it has a mere 7 Mb of internal memory it does have a a micro-SD slot for more memory and a 2.5 mm headphone socket. Applications on the phone is the S40 series so you won't be missing out anything.  It even has a massive 2MB JAVA heap! The interface customisation features are truly the industry best - no manufacturer does it like Nokia.  That said the only thing missing is a backlight time out!  The system works as fast so you won;t be dissapointed. The most outstanding feature of the phone is the display.  It's very bright and diamond sharp.  This is our new bench mark for screen quality.   It's lovely to look a - especially with some quality SWF wallpapers out there, including our own.   Of note also was a notification light - which warns if you have a message, call and so forth. Call quality, reception is standard Nokia, so no complaints. Battery life was again good lasting 5-7 days on left on standby most of the time. Sound quality from the speaker was average.  We haven't tried the video yet but the camera was standard Nokia 2MP so only acceptable. So as we said before if you want a GSM only mobile phone then the Nokia 6300 is truly the top of the heap unit.  It's not a multi-media phone but can do the most common formats to some point, it is more focused on calls and txt with a ton of customisation and top spec screen.  We like it and recommend it to anyone wanting a very good GSM phone.   • Apple iPhone 3GS Review

    Welcome to the Apple iPhone 3GS review.  The iPhone 3GS was released in mid 2009 and a quiet release compared to the regular iPhone 3G. Both are physically identical except for branding and unseen hardware improvements! The 3GS improves on the former 3G in noticeable ways when you actually use it.  Apple says the 'S' is for speed and that is certainly obvious.  Everything about the phone just works better.  Hardware improvements include a faster CPU, compass and video capability.  Other improvements are OS software related eg. voice control. The iPhone 3GS is probably what Apple should have released as the original 3G but clearly commercial realities made that not possible.  Purely due to its speed pick the 3GS but if your budget doesn't stretch that far then the 3G is still a good choice. There are probably 2 features that we think are overdue and most appreciated.  They are the battery percentage meter and the hardware compass that improves GPS performance.  Mind you battery life is still very poor - lasting barely 12 hours if receiving push emails, running a few games calls and test.  If left purely on standby the phone could possibly reach 3 days but hats the point of that. Since the App store is easy to use likewise the browser it has encouraged networks all over the world to update their networks to a 3G standard.  The Safari web browser is not the best out there but because he iPhone is so popular lots of websites customize for the specifically for it. Once again we can't write anything that hasn't already been said countless times and all the positives about the iPhone 3GS phone but we can add some reasons why you should consider other phones. 1 - its expensive to buy outright or plan 2- it is rarely on a pre-paid plan and even if so it is expensive 3- you need a decent data plan even if you use its Wi-Fi 4- browser does not do FLASH websites 5- limited OS customization features - you can't even change the messaging ringtone 6- it goes through the battery more quickly than any phone you have ever had 7- keypad is hard to use 8- call quality is very average 9- its very big and a protective case is essential 10- cannot add more memory 11- additional functions have to be bought 12- average to poor camera and video 13- still no radio 14- everyone has got one Overall and regardless of any criticism the iPhone 3GS does work better than the iPhone 3G.  As a phone it works just as well as any other phone but it does have poor reception and voice quality.  The iPhone is very easy to use and there are plenty of Apps if you are interested but it still lacks a lot of features that other phones have as standard.  The forth coming iPhone 4 may solve some things but will create others. If you've got the cash and an iTunes account and credit to spare then look no further. Specifications

    Welcome to the Apple iPhone 3G review.  The iPhone 3G was released to very keen world in mid-2008.  It was superior to the original GSM only iPhone in many so many ways. The original iPhone was a huge hit and the 3G capable replacement was finally the model that started a world wide shift to everyone wanting one. Over 150 million sold in less than 2 years is a lot of phones. The iPhone 3G is an amazing phone.  Sure the hardware the iPhone is built on was not particularly exceptional bar the multi-touch screen it is/was the software or Operating System (OS) that made the iPhone stand out amongst the crowded smartphone market.  It certainly made a dent to Nokia's sales and the contributing factor in the demise of Windows based phones! And yes the iPhone 3G is not a perfect phone but because it was so easy to use and that it was also an iPod at the same time and of course all the Apple fans overcame any limitations it may have had.  History will remember the iPhone and it will be a benchmark OS for quite a number of years to come. We can't write anything that hasn't already been said countless times and all the positives about this mobile phone but we can add some reasons why you should consider other phones. 1 - its expensive to buy outright 2- it is rarely on a pre-paid plan and even if it is it is expensive 3- you need a decent data plan even if you use its Wi-Fi 4- browser does not do FLASH 5- limited OS customization features - you can't even change the messaging ringtone 6- it goes through the battery more quickly than any phone you have ever had 7- keypad is hard to use 8- call quality is very average 9- its very big and a protective case is essential 10- cannot add more memory 11- additional functions have to be bought 12- average to poor camera (no video on the 3G version) 13- missing a radio 14- requires a computer with iTunes to use it properly 15- everyone has got one Overall and regardless of any criticism the iPhone does work very well.  If you've got the cash and an iTunes account and credit to spare then look no further.  We can still recommend getting an iPhone purely because its so easy to use.   • Samsung S8000 Jet Review

    Welcome to the Samsung S8000 Jet review. The S8000 Jet is another touch screen mobile phone from Samsung was released in late 2009.  This is one of Samsung's top range phones using their own OS. The S8000 Jet is appropriately named because this is a fast phone.  The OS works smoothly although still has the occasion lag for what ever reason.  At a guess the OS works 98% impressively smoothly as the iPhone. The phone also debuts the 3D cube menu system and a Vista like animation for certain apps.  It appears identical to the one LG already uses.  Whatever you thin k it does work well and looks good. The extra processing power means that the widgets system works the way it should along with everything else on the interface.  It makes the slower models in the Samsung range and indeed the Nokia models feel ancient by comparison. This include the Dolfin web browser which has a popup-ad blocker can handle JAVA and FLASH. Being a top range phone you'd expected decent construction and materials - tick.  You'd expect a hi-def screen - tick You'd expect GPS and Wi-Fi - tick.  It's got a decent camera and does video well and the usual option filled control panel. So there's everything you could possible expect in a phone like this.  Since this is a AMOLED screen its nice and bright and shows off the screen nicely.  Again it doesn't have that Blackberry Bold's  impressiveness for some reason.  It's a fair comparison since they are in the same price category. Overall a great touch screen mobile phone that has all the communication options you could want. We have no problems recommending the S8000 Jet.  However in this price range there are so many just as impressive options to choose from.  Eg. the iPhone 3G, N97 and N97 Mini and so forth. samsung_s8000_back Specifications
